Engineering costs are not included in package prices. Building jurisdictions in the following States are going to require engineering: California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. Other States and agencies may also have engineering requirements.
For these States and localities, custom quotes utilizing precise site information should be
requested.
Engineering is dictated by snow loads, wind loads, earthquake (seismic) loads, soil and frost depth conditions among other things. Local building jurisdictions may have particular reasons to require some or all of a structure be engineered. Specific site conditions may indicate some engineering is prudent, even if not required by law.
As such, some of the package components may change in size, quantity, type and fastening method, which will affect the cost of the package. In addition, the cost of implementing these required structural enhancements is not included in the package price.
Engineering is done to enhance the safety and durability of your home, especially when built in areas with adverse climate or soil conditions. Although engineering can have wide ranging consequences in regards to costs, in most cases it amounts to but a small percentage of the overall project budget.
