Windows and Doors play a large part in both the functionality
and the aesthetic character of your home.
A considerable spread in the price does exist between aluminum,
and the top of the line wood and clad wood units.
As an alternative, the window bucking and trim system used by Sierra Log Homes
allows you to utilize mid-range priced vinyl windows while
enjoying a look that is nearly all wood.
In addition, specially shaped windows are often added to accent a Great Room
or to dress up an Entry or Dormer. Some are triangular or trapezoidal,
while others can be round or octagonal.
Whatever the shape, these add some cost and
complexity, but are well worth the effort.

Dormers add a special country charm while providing some extra
headroom inside, especially in lofts and homes with steep pitched roofs.
Dormers and Gables can be built of full logs, or framed and
sided with half log siding or conventional wood siding.
Framing and siding the gable and dormer walls will provide some
savings in most cases. Interior walls may also be finished with
half log siding.

More than any other element, the roof will determine
the visual impact of the home. Some areas
demand a steep roof to shed snow, while in other areas, the roof
may be extended over the decks to provide extra shade
and cover. The interior surfaces of the roof structure
may be finished in pine or plaster, and may be
vaulted or flat. The structural members of the roof system may be
true logs, utilizing log ridges, rafters, posts and
purlins. As an alternative, conventional framing methods
may be used, with log decor being added upon finish.
True log roof systems tend to be quite dramatic although
their cost is somewhat higher than conventionally framed roof systems.
