Log Home Owner's Manual
by Jim Renfroe

This book focuses on restoration an protection of homes less than 30 years old. While many of the techniques and products used to refresh a five to ten year old home can also help to restore a 150 year old log home, these older homes often have structural problems with the foundations, rotten logs, bad design, no electricity or running water and art not he kind of homes that make up the majority of today's log structures. Homes in the 5 - 30 year old range make up over 80% of the log homes that exist today. Many, if not most of them need some kind of maintenance today... right now. this can involve anything from a good rinse with a water hose and a new coat of finish, to some caulk in the joints, to treating areas of rot or insect infestation, to a full chemical strip down to bare wood and a full preservative system. Whatever the case may be, log home maintenance is not a one shot deal. Annual inspection and periodic maintenance are keys to keeping the wood protected and good looking indefinitely.

This book is an owners's manual and should become pa part of the log home. Just as a owner's manual in a car stays with the car when it is sold, this book should transfer to the new owners along with the title.
