Log home shells, log home kits,
and log home packages

In most states across the US you can act as owner contractor or owner builder. Our recommendation, if you are going to be an owner, builder or contractor, is to study up on project management. Know what is involved before committing and have a written project plan and contract with a Log Builder to supervise you. Both men and women have successfully managed the construction of their own log home and they saved money doing it. Check out this article.

Log Home Plans:
Every log home or cabin starts out as a plan. You can view models and plans here.

The Home Log Shell:
Once the walls are up you have the basic log shell. Depending on the size of the home we recommend you have a builder stack the logs on the foundation.

The Log Kit:
The shell you purchase can be expanded to include floor joists, loft or second floor joists, rafters or purlins and ridge beam. This is called a log kit. The balance of the building materials for log kits are generally purchased from a local supplier. Depending on the size of the home we recommend you have a builder stack the logs on your foundation.

Log Home Package:
While log home and cabin packages vary from mill to mill, you will have everything needed to build or dry-in your log home or cabin unless your contract calls for something different. Again, depending on the size of the home we recommend you have a builder stack the logs on your foundation.

Turnkey Log Home or Cabin:
A turnkey log home or cabin is just like buying a conventional home. Pick out the model, sign the contract, and have your log home built for you. Turnkey simply means stick the key in the lock, open the door, move in and start living.
